The Caterpillar 211 hydraulic excavator was introduced in 1984. It was manufactured in Germany only.

The 211 comes standard with a variable flow hydraulic system, pilot-operated controls, and a long undercarriage.

The 211 was manufactured in Germany, with a 4EC or 5CC serial number prefix.

The 4EC has a Deutz F5L912 engine producing 84 flywheel horsepower (FWHP); the 5CC has a Perkins T4.236 engine producing 94 FWHP.

In 1986 Caterpillar modified the cab, beginning with 4EC00135. Meanwhile, the 5CC unit had its boom tower modified and its upper windshield laminated, beginning with 5CC00193.

In 1987 Cat made the boom nose stronger, beginning with 5CC00346.

Production of 211 ended in 1990; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 211B.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 900 Caterpillar 211 hydraulic excavators have been produced.
