The Caterpillar 215C hydraulic excavator was introduced in 1987 as the replacement for the Caterpillar 215B. It was manufactured in Belgium only.

[edit] Features

The 215C has a Cat 3304 engine producing 115 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with larger boom and bucket cylinders, heavier counterweight, greater travel circuit pressures, thicker stick and boom plates, reinforced main frame rails, a larger boom to stick pin, and increased implement pressure and digging forces. It has a long undercarriage.

The 215C was given a 4HG serial number prefix.

In 1988 Caterpillar modified the sprocket retention, beginning with 4HG00890.

In 1989 Cat redesigned the one-piece boom for durability, modified the boom tower, and added a larger boom upper frame pin, beginning with 4HG02086.

Production of 215C ended in 1989; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 215D.
