The Caterpillar 225D hydraulic excavator was introduced in 1989 in the USA and Belgium. It replaced the Caterpillar 225B.

[edit] Features

Like its predecessor, the 225D has two different engine configurations: the American unit has a Cat 3208 engine producing 165 flywheel horsepower (FWHP) while the Belgian unit has a 3304 engine producing 150 FWHP.

The 225D comes standard with a cab fuel gauge, a Bostrom 411 seat, high-pressure hydraulic tubes, increased hydraulic pressure, and a redesigned center core, carbody, boom, and stick. It also has increased productivity in truckloading and deep trenching.

The 225D was manufactured in the USA, with a 2SJ serial number prefix, and in Belgium, with a 6RG prefix.

The 2SJ also has a larger fuel tank and increased fuel efficiency.

[edit] Modifications

In 1990 Caterpillar added automatic engine speed control, a heavy lift hydraulic circuit, and a loose mat bucket with more heap capacity, beginning with 2SJ00623.

Production ended in the USA in 1991 and Belgium in 1992.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 2,300 Caterpillar 225D hydraulic excavators have been produced.
