The Caterpillar 307 midi excavator was introduced in 1994 in Japan and France as the replacement for the Caterpillar E70B.

The 307 has two different engine configurations producing 54 flywheel horsepower: French units have a Cat 3054 engine; Japanese units have a Mitsubishi 4D32 engine. It comes standard with two variable flow pumps, work and power mode selections, modified ground clearance, and a new ‘X’ carbody.

The 307 was manufactured in Japan, with a 2PM or 9ZL serial number prefix; and in France, with a 2WM prefix.

Japanese units have pilot operated controls.

The French unit has a wide cab.

Production of 2PM ended in 1998.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 7,100 Caterpillar 307 midi excavators have been produced.
