The Caterpillar 375 hydraulic excavator was introduced in 1992 in Japan. Production began in the USA and Belgium in 1993.

The 375 has a Cat 3406 air-to-air after-cooled diesel engine producing 428 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with a variable flow hydraulic system with a power and work mode selector, pilot activated controls, a load sensing hydraulic system, independent swing pump, high level of operator comfort, H-shaped carbody, variable track gauge, large cross-section design for the boom and stick, increased stick and bucket forces, and increased pressure in the travel circuit.

The 375 was manufactured in Japan, with an 6RL or 8XG serial number prefix; in the USA, with a 1JM or 8WJ prefix; and in Belgium, with a 6NK or 9WL prefix.

The 9WL, 6RL, and 1JM units have a long undercarriage.
