The Caterpillar 442D loader backhoe was introduced in 2001. It was manufactured in England only.

[edit] Features

The 442D is a standard frame width, parallel lift loader with pilot stabilizer controls, high rotation backhoe linkage, and a hydraulic pump that delivers fluid at a rate of 43 gallons (163 L) per minute (GPM) at a system pressure of 3,300 pounds square inch (PSI) (22,753 kPa). It is available with an all-wheel or two-wheel steer rear axle.

All-wheel steer rear axle units were given a BRG serial number prefix.

Two-wheel steer rear axle units have a BRY prefix.

[edit] Modifications

Production of 442D ended in 2003; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 442D Series II, which has a redesigned front axle and other miscellaneous features to reduce production costs.

The 442D II all-wheel steer rear axle unit has a SMJ prefix.

The two-wheel steer rear axles units were given a TBD prefix.

Production of 442D II ended in 2005; it was replaced by the Caterpillar 442E.
