[edit] Features

The 527 has a 3304 direct injection, turbocharged, after-cooled, four-cylinder diesel engine producing 150 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with a Cat D6R-size heavy-duty undercarriage with 112 inches (284.5 cm) of track on the ground. It is available as a cable or grapple model.

The 527 was given a 2RS, 3DS, or 4NS serial number prefix.

[edit] Modifications

Production of 3DS ended in 1996; 4NS ended in 1997; and 2RS ended in 1998.

In 2000 Caterpillar introduced a new 527 unit, with a BDW prefix. The BDX comes standard with a high sprocket and a three speeds forward, three reverse 11-in (28-cm) planetary transmission.
