The Caterpillar 920B wheel loader was introduced in 1966. It was manufactured in Japan only.

The 920B has a D330 four-cylinder engine producing 80 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with powershift transmission.

The initial 920B unit was given a 97A serial number prefix. It has a wheelbase of 78 inches (198 cm).

Production of 97A ended in 1968. That same year Caterpillar introduced a new unit, with a 74J prefix. It has an 86-inch (218-cm) wheelbase.

Production of 74J ended in 1970.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 3,500 Caterpillar 920B wheel loaders have been produced.
