[edit] Features

The 972G has a 3306 turbo engine producing 265 net horsepower (HP). It comes standard with an electronic clutch pressure control (ECPC) transmission, increased torque, tilting hood, ground level service access, and a new front and rear axle with two brake discs per wheel.

The 972G was manufactured in the USA, with a 4WW or 7LS serial number prefix; in Japan, with a 9GW and AAW prefix; and in Belgium, with a 1EW or 6AW prefix.

The 4WW, 9GW, and 6AW have conventional steering and pilot hydraulics.

The 7LS and 1EW have command control steering and electro-hydraulic bucket controls.

The AAW has an electronic control powershift transmission and separate cooling system.

Production of AAW ended in 2004.

The Caterpillar 972G was replaced by the Caterpillar 972G II.
