[edit] Features

The D5M has a 3116 engine producing 110 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It comes standard with a high sprocket and powershift transmission.

[edit] Configurations

It is available in two configurations: the standard model has a track gauge of 71 inches (180 cm), the same as its predecessor; the Low Ground Pressure (LGP) configuration has a 85-inch (216-cm) track gauge, also the same as its predecessor. Both configurations are available with electronic clutch pressure control (ECPC), electronic clutch and brake (ECB), and electric start clutch and brake, or just clutch and brake steering.

Standard tractors with ECPC and ECB were manufactured in France, with a 6GN serial number prefix, and in Japan, with a 5ES prefix.

LGP tractors with ECPC and ECB were manufactured in France, with a 3CR, and in Japan, with a 6AS and 7LR prefix. The 7LR unit has a powershift-direct drive transmission.

LGP tractors with clutch and brake steering were manufactured in France, with a 3DR prefix, and in Japan, with a 5FS prefix.

Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 8,200 Caterpillar D5M crawler tractors have been produced.
