The Caterpillar D6E crawler tractor was introduced in 1989 as the replacement for the D6D. Unlike other D6 models produced elsewhere in the world at the time, the D6E was not a high-drive design, but had a standard track frame configuration, similar to the D6D. It was manufactured only in Brazil.

[edit] Features

The D6E has a 3306T six-cylinder engine producing 155 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It has a 74-inch (188-cm) track gauge and powershift transmission. It came standard with oil-cooled brakes and steering clutches.

Only one series of the D6E was produced, with a 2MJ serial number prefix.

In 1992, Caterpillar added a squared radiator grill, beginning with 2MJ01158.

Production of the D6E ended in 1996. Based on data from the sales database of Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, it is estimated that more than 2,200 Caterpillar D6E crawler tractors have been produced.

The Cat D6E was replaced by the D6F.
