The Caterpillar M313C mobile excavator was introduced in 2003 in Germany. Production began in France in 2005.

The M313C has a Cat 3054E direct injection turbocharged, air-to-air after-cooled (ATAAC) engine producing 120 flywheel horsepower (FWHP). It has an operating weight of 28,820 to 32,450 pounds (13,100 to 14,750 kg), bucket capacity of 0.29 to 0.94 cubic yards (0.22 to 0.72 m3), maximum ground level reach of 29.6 feet (9.03 m), maximum digging depth of 18.9 ft (5.75 m), and maximum travel speed of 21 miles per hour (34 km/h).

The M313C was manufactured in Germany, with a BDR serial number prefix; and in France, with a H2A prefix.

In 2005 Caterpillar added a new drive train, a remote grease point on the oscillating axle, and a lock for the high-pressure foot-pedal, beginning with BDR02001.
