Mechanical Features and Designs

The powertrain is made up of the engine and transmission, the main components responsible for generating power and propelling the vehicle into movement. Also known as a drivetrain, the term can also be used to refer to the more minor components of the engine and transmission, such as the driveshafts and differentials.

The powertrain configuration differs somewhat in farm, construction, and mining equipment, consisting of a diesel engine and a set of hydraulic pumps. Equipment tends to use a diesel engine because these tasks often involve working for hours at a time, a duration that is handled more efficiently with diesel rather than gas engines.[1]
