Ezee-On Manufacturing is an agricultural equipment manufacturer headquartered in Vegreville, Alberta, Canada. The company also has manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Australia. Ezee-On products are sold worldwide.[1]

[edit] History

[edit] Demkiw and Yakimetz

The beginnings of Ezee-On Manufacturing date back to 1949 when Eugene Demkiw opened a farm machinery dealership in Vegreville, Alberta. Soon, Demkiw’s dealership began manufacturing an oat cleaning machine for farmers wanting to separate black (wild) oats and white (seed) oats.

Two years after the small dealership was founded, John Yakimetz entered a partnership with Demkiw. The company was named Demkiw and Yakimetz Equipment Ltd.

By the end of the 1950s the Demkiw and Yakimetz Equipment Ltd. was producing heavy-duty breaking plows and discs. These were useful to farmers in the northwest region of Canada who needed to clear the bush in the areas they intended to use as farmland.

[edit] A New Identity and New Demand

In 1961 the company’s name was changed to Ezee-On Mfg. Ltd., named for its new easy-to-attach front end loader attachment. This new patented design was well received across North America. Ezee-On became solely a manufacturing company at this time. In 1967, operations were moved to a new 10,000-square foot (929 m2) factory in Vegreville to accommodate the manufacture of its front end loader attachments.[2]

[edit] Further Expansion

In 1969 Ezee-On began manufacturing tandem and offset discs. These discs, manufactured to outfit high-horsepower four-wheel drive tractors, ranged in size from nine to 48 feet (2.7 to 15 m).

The year 1970 marked the beginning of a partnership between Ezee-On and Versatile Farm Equipment Ltd. The partnership enabled Ezee-On to market its disc line under private label in North and South America, Australia, the Middle East, and Europe.[3]

In the 1980s Ezee-On expanded its product line further with the incorporation of fixed and floating hitch cultivators and chisel plows, measuring between 24 and 52 feet (7.3 to 16 m) in width. In 1988 the company also added a line of air seeders, designed with a ground-driven air delivery system, to its product line. The following year brought the introduction of Ezee-On post drivers, mounted harrows, and mounted packers.

Identifying an opportunity for continued growth in the 1990s, the company introduced more products, including air drills, coulter drills, and large-capacity air seeders.

[edit] New Ownership

In 1997 Ezee-On was purchased by Laniuk Industries Inc. (LII), a company also based in Vegreville.

In 2004, Laniuk Industries converted to an income trust corporate structure known as TerraVest Income Fund. Ezee-On became a division of TerraVest alongside companies such as RJV Gas Field Services and Don Park.

[edit] The Company Today

Today, Ezee-On remains a division of TerraVest, which is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticket TI.UN.[4]

The Vegreville, Alberta-based Ezee-On manufacturing plant exceeds 170,000 square feet (15,794 m2).[5]

Ezee-On also has manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Australia, and a dealer network that spans North America.
