In-seam Drilling

From RitchieWiki

Mining Processes

In-seam drilling is a method of directional drilling used for drilling wells into a coal seam to extract coal methane, a natural gas found in coal. The process involves placing a drilling machine underground and drilling boreholes horizontally within a coal seam instead of vertically down from the surface. The drill rig is usually a track-mounted unit and has a motor located within the drill hole behind the drill bit that permits the drilling operator at the top to steer and bore the hole along a predetermined path.[1]
