A jeep is a metering device used during pipeline construction to detect any voids that may be present in the coating of the pipes.[1]

Also referred to as a jeepmeter, this specialized device uses a high voltage pulse output to detect the amount of moisture on the pipes, as well as the ground and soil conditions. Jeeps can be battery-controlled; however, manufacturers have developed jeeps that do not require batteries.[2]
